Shockwave Therapy

A Non-Invasive Tune-Up For Stubborn Pain

When Your Body Won’t Stop Sending Warning Signals

Some people call it tension. Others say it’s inflammation, tightness, or “that old injury that never quite healed.” Whatever the name, it all adds up to the same thing, a system that’s not running right.

At The Massage Garage, we’re known for getting to the root of what’s going on under the hood. Now we’ve got a new tool in the shop to help you feel better faster: Shockwave Therapy.

This isn’t a massage. It isn’t a stretch. It’s a non-invasive treatment that uses targeted sound waves to stimulate healing where your body needs it most. You stay clothed. There are no needles or drugs. And it works whether your pain is brand new or has been part of your story for years.

What Is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave Therapy, technically called Radial Pressure Wave (RPW) Therapy, delivers focused acoustic waves into your soft tissue. These sound waves travel deep below the surface to activate blood flow, repair tissue, and break up the painful buildup that holds healing back.

We use a Chattanooga® Intelect® RPW2 system, a global leader in shockwave technology. This device is used in medical clinics, sports rehab facilities, and physical therapy offices around the world.

Each session lasts about 30 to 40 minutes. Most people describe the sensation as rhythmic tapping or pulsing. It’s fully adjustable to your comfort level, and there's minimal downtime afterward.

What It Helps?

If your body is stuck in a cycle of inflammation, tightness, or pain, especially in the same spot over and over, this treatment is designed for you.

Common conditions we treat with Shockwave Therapy:

  • Plantar fasciitis and heel pain
  • Achilles tendonitis
  • Shoulder pain and rotator cuff injuries
  • Tennis elbow or golfer’s elbow
  • Jaw tension and TMJ pain
  • Knee, wrist, and hip discomfort
  • Shin splints, IT band tension, or scar tissue
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Pain around surgical scars or old injuries

If it aches, creaks, throbs, or keeps triggering your check-engine light, RPW Shockwave might be the missing piece.

Who It’s For?

Shockwave Therapy is for anyone whose body needs a tune-up.

That includes:

  • Active adults who want to stay that way
  • Desk workers dealing with shoulder or jaw tension
  • Runners and lifters with stubborn injuries
  • Clients trying to avoid surgery or downtime
  • People who have “tried everything” and are still in pain

Whether you’ve just tweaked something or you’re dealing with long-term discomfort, we’ll meet you where you are and help you get back to where you want to be. If you’re asking: Why is this still hurting? We’re answering with: Let’s lift the hood and fix it right.

How It Works?

Here’s what’s actually happening inside your body during a Shockwave session.

We apply a handheld device to the target area. It sends short bursts of high-energy acoustic waves into your soft tissue. These waves create controlled mechanical stress, not the bad kind, but the kind your body sees as a wake-up call to heal.

Shockwave Therapy works by:

  • Breaking down scar tissue and calcium deposits
  • Stimulating blood vessel formation
  • Triggering collagen production
  • Modulating inflammatory chemicals
  • Resetting cellular metabolism in overloaded or stagnant areas

Shockwave Therapy is like a torque wrench for your tendons. It dials in exactly what your system needs to move right, without forcing it or guessing. It’s a bit like calling in a repair crew, except the crew is your own biology. We’re just handing it the right tools.

When You’ll See Results?

Some people feel the difference right away. For most, it takes about three to six sessions, one week apart, to notice significant improvements. The results are cumulative, which means your body keeps healing between treatments.

You can expect:

  • Reduced pain and stiffness
  • Better range of motion
  • Faster recovery after movement
  • Less swelling or inflammation
  • Fewer setbacks after activity

And for massage clients, longer-lasting results between sessions. This is the kind of work that reinforces what bodywork starts. You’re not just getting polished, you’re getting repaired.

Treatment- Ankle

Add It On Or Book It Solo.

You don’t have to be a massage client to receive Shockwave Therapy. You can:

  • Book a standalone Shockwave session
  • Add it to your massage for an extra layer of targeted recovery

We’ll guide you through your first session and help you decide the right path forward.

What The Research Shows?

Shockwave Therapy isn’t new. It’s been studied, published, and used globally for decades, not just in wellness clinics, but in hospitals, orthopedic practices, and pro sports teams.

What the research says:

  • Cleared by the FDA for treating heel spurs and tennis elbow
  • Over 80 percent of patients report significant relief or full resolution of symptoms
  • Effective for both chronic and acute soft tissue pain
  • Stimulates healing at the cellular level, not just symptom masking
  • Used successfully for everything from joint inflammation to nerve irritation and post-op recovery

And just as importantly, the system we use at The Massage Garage is backed by this research, powered by the same technology trusted in clinical environments worldwide.

Gary is an angel on earth. He is a talented and highly valuable bodywork practitioner, unlike any massage therapist I have worked with in his depth of knowledge, intuition, and his ability to communicate and educate as he works through my points of pain. He cares deeply, and validates accordingly. Gary is a gift to anyone experiencing chronic pain that is preventing them from living the fullest life possible ❤️ he is a healer through and through. Thank you, Gary 🙏🏼

I have been a happily satisfied Massage Garage regular client for the last 4 years. Gary Mendelson is a super professional and expert neuromuscular therapist who has helped me through several major health challenges. I rely on his services and absolutely recommend him to clients who are seeking a healing, therapeutic relationship, not merely massage.

Frequently

Asked Questions

Yes. Shockwave Therapy is FDA-cleared, clinically validated, and non-invasive. It doesn’t require injections, anesthesia, or medications. Most people resume normal activity the same day. You may feel some soreness in the treated area for a day or two, similar to post-workout fatigue, but it typically resolves quickly. We recommend avoiding strenuous activity for two to three days after each session to let your body do its best healing.

Testimonials

Jefferson B.

Gary is wonderfully attentive, patient, and respectful, on top of being a great massage therapist. The combination of massage, physical therapy, education, and shockwave therapy that I have received has made every visit feel incredibly valuable. I have made progress healing that I would not have had I not come to the Massage Garage.

Jess C.

Unlike three other shockwave providers in the Bay Area (an osteopath, two chiropractors), Gary, started with a mini-massage where he knew exactly where my tender spots were without me telling him. His massages are unlike any massage I've experienced. And I tried everything I could afford! All three other shockwave providers I saw didn't give massage unless I booked a separate session.

Megan S.

Gary is critical to my ability to have a body that functions. Seeing him for regular tune-ups keeps aches and pains at bay and I’ve learned important tools to help me deal with back and knee pain, and other gripes ad my body ages, on my own. It’s worth making an appointment!
